Enter your courses once, or upload a transcript, and the tracker checks them against your target division and flags a gap while there is still time to close it.

The Half Nobody Trains For

Eligibility is carried in the other arm

Every athlete trains the left side of this picture. Almost nobody trains the right side, and the right side is what the NCAA actually checks. Sixteen core courses, a sliding GPA scale, a registration deadline, and a transcript that has to hold up years after the grade was entered.

The tracker above exists because the courses that count are decided in ninth grade, and most families do not find out until eleventh.

The Requirements

What it actually takes

Division I

16 core courses · 2.300 core GPA

English4 years
Math (Algebra I or higher)3 years
Natural / physical science2 years
Additional English, math, or science1 year
Social science2 years
Additional core courses4 years
Minimum core course GPA2.300
The ten course rule. Ten of your sixteen core courses, including seven in English, math, or science, must be finished before the start of your seventh semester, which is the first day of senior year. Those ten lock in. Nothing taken senior year can replace them.
Division II

16 core courses · 2.200 core GPA

English3 years
Math (Algebra I or higher)2 years
Natural / physical science2 years
Additional English, math, or science3 years
Social science2 years
Additional core courses4 years
Minimum core course GPA2.200
Division III is different. There is no NCAA wide academic standard. Each college sets its own admission and eligibility requirements, so the school's admissions office is your source of truth.
The Process

Registering with the Eligibility Center

1

Create your account

Open an Academic and Athletics Certification account. Sophomore year is not too early.

2

Work with your counselor

Confirm every course you take appears on your school's NCAA approved course list. This is the step families skip.

3

Send transcripts

Official transcripts go directly from your school. Keep your account current every year.

4

Final certification

Submit your final transcript with proof of graduation and receive your certification.

When Coaches Can Reach You

Recruiting calendar

Contact, evaluation, quiet, and dead periods decide when a college coach can call you, watch you play, or meet your family. They differ by sport and change every year, so each sport links straight to the official NCAA calendar.

Contact

Coaches may meet you and your family in person off campus, watch you play, call, and message.

Evaluation

Coaches may watch you play or practice and review academics, but cannot talk with you off campus.

Quiet

Coaches may only talk with you in person on their own college campus. No off-campus contact or evaluations.

Dead

No in-person contact anywhere. Coaches may still call, email, and message you.

This is a plain-language summary to help you plan. The official NCAA calendar always governs, and dates change each year. Confirm your sport's current calendar before acting.

The Rest of It

NIL, the portal, and amateurism

NIL

Name, image, and likeness rules differ by state and by high school association. Signing the wrong agreement as a high school athlete can affect standing. Read before you sign, and never sign without an adult reviewing it.

Transfer Portal

The portal reshaped recruiting. Programs now fill needs with experienced transfers, which changes how many roster spots reach high school athletes and when offers come.

Amateurism

Prize money, agents, professional teams, and benefits all carry rules. Most violations are accidental and preventable with one question asked early.
